Senior Portraits at Samuel S. Lewis State Park, York, PA
Most York County seniors default to Rocky Ridge or Nixon Park for their portraits. Samuel S. Lewis State Park gives you something they don't: elevation, panoramic views, and backgrounds that look completely unlike any other York County location.
What Makes Samuel S. Lewis Different
The park sits at one of the highest points in York County, with sweeping views of the surrounding valley. On a clear day, visibility extends for miles. That backdrop — open sky, distant ridgeline, valley below — creates portrait backgrounds that are immediately distinctive.
For seniors who want portraits that stand out in a yearbook page full of tree-backdrop photos, Lewis State Park delivers.

Best Times to Visit
Late Afternoon Is Essential Here
The open hilltop has no tree canopy to diffuse light, so midday sun creates harsh shadows. Schedule sessions to start 90 minutes before sunset.
Summer Start Time
6:30–7:00 PM
Early Fall Start Time
5:30–6:00 PM
Avoid overcast days if you want the panoramic view. Overcast conditions obscure the distant backdrop that makes this location distinctive.
Season and Wind Notes
Fall is the strongest season here — October foliage in the valley below adds color to the panoramic background.
Wind is a consistent factor at elevation. Light fabrics and carefully styled hair may not stay put. We photograph into or across the wind to keep subjects looking polished.
